Nice While It Lasted by The Qwarks: Review

The Qwarks make their presence known with a hint of jazz and an eerie tone in the track “Nice While It Lasted”. The melody of the track is compelling, as it blends elements of free-form jazz and avant-garde rock. Upon hearing the song, it felt like a different take on a music genre I haven’t had the pleasure to hear much before. Now that I have, it puts my melodic knowledge in a fresh perspective.
The Qwarks blend together slow rock, with some experimental angles to produce a diverse track. “Nice While It Lasted” has a riff that plays on a loop, the guitar lick, in particular, is quite catchy and adds a flavorful experience to the track. Most of the song is filled with these segments where the singer isn’t quite singing, but more like speaking to the audience. Not your typical pop or rock track, but rather a storytelling element is present here. Back in the old days, improvisation was encouraged in jazz music, and it seems due to the addition of the trumpet on the track, the elements of free-form jazz and improv are still present in the modern day.
Some subtle pieces grace the track in between the transitions and add a soothing mix. I went in listening to the song with an open mind and was not disappointed. Rather it made me understand artistic creativity more. With that being said, “Nice While It Lasted” by The Qwarks is a spectacular experimental tune that will certainly resonate with anyone.
