Number One Babe Team, a Salt Lake City-based alternative band, solidifies their position in the music scene with their 13-tracked album “See You Later,” released freshly on the 9th of June. Comprised of Austin Michael on guitar and vocals, Andrew Robertson on guitar, keys, and beats, and Kelsee Webb on drums and vocals, the band showcases its musical depth through a compelling collection of songs.
Influenced by artists such as Soccer Mommy, Snail Mail, Alex Turner, Sufjan Stevens, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Simon and Garfunkel, Number One Babe Team delivers a folksy yet punky album that delves into the complexities of intimacy, loss, and personal growth.
An exemplary track, “Fever American Dream,” has a rather upbeat vibe for its deep and dark context. Lines like “And you wring out the truth/ And you dry out your lies/Pick and choose the news/ Ignore what you don’t like” call out the political tension and the lack of control over any situation. The song is quite poetic for its various references to world crises. Its enjoyable tone is what makes it easy to listen to and also makes the depth of the lyrics more accessible to permeate your brain.
With dreamy, atmospheric guitar playing along with familiar, comfortable, pitchy male vocals, the songs have an almost cinematic vibe when paired with contextual profundity. A particular song is “Sixty-Five,” which lends to the immersive feel as you traverse within the song.
With many tracks produced with reflections gathered throughout the pandemic, you could say the album is quite introspective. The intimate factor is what really sells in this album. If you love calm and comforting music, check out “See You Later” by Number One Babe Team.
