Payroll by Oakley Grenell feat. Stauny Pops & Max Shotta: Review
Oakley Grenell, a musician and producer based in Melbourne, Australia, wows us with his track “Payroll,” on Central Records. Grenell recruited Stauny Pops, an MC who has worked with him side by side, to contribute his rhymes to this hard-hitting hip-hop single. Max Shotta, is a recent addition to Payroll’s lineup of collaborators. The song describes how working hard at a mundane job may lead to unexpected success if you have the willpower to follow through. It’s both motivating and depressing to think about the state of the modern work-life balance. Dear listeners, know this though, you’ll be able to bounce back from any bad vibe after listening to Payroll.
The instrumentation of the song follows the rappers with a keyboard and beats. It’s quite simple for anyone to get drawn in on the tension and intensity of the rappers. This is because their flow is unbreakable, and the chemistry the artists have with each other is undeniable. Thus, as I listened to their lyrics and carefully heard their music, I realized that it was the type of song that could uplift anyone easily. Music has a way of enlightening anybody and Grenell along with the boys commanded that anthem virtuously!
The music structure is quite minimal but very effective. It mixes well with the rap’s flow, and the transitions add a great mix. When you’re trying to go full beast mode at the gym or scream at your awful boss (think it but don’t actually do it), then Payroll is an excellent song to pump you up.
