QUINT by Aggressive Soccer Moms: Album Review
Aggressive Soccer Moms is a group of Swedish musicians made up of Anders Bergstrom, Thomas Wahlstrom, and Stefan Wistrand. Their music is a mix of experimental and electronica. Aside from these genres, there’s a pleasant aura of jazz surrounding their album “QUINT,” which makes for a smooth listening experience. This is brought on by the instrumental sections that imbue a sense of jazz and lounge too.
“I Call Her Happy” is a polished number with an essence of rhythm and flow. The vocal facets are intriguing, but what captures the center of attention are the saxophone pieces. Man, those were some excellent performances and contributed to such a serene atmosphere! Hearing it can easily hypnotize your senses and put you in a trance worth experiencing. The next track on the list, “That’s How I Feel” is a taste of ambient and downtempo as well. With some avant-garde-style vocals joining the scene and an electronica background, this piece will surely resonate with fans who enjoy a bit of chill in their melody.
Aside from the originals, a cover exists amidst this masterful album. A rendition of Yoko Ono’s “Why” is on Aggressive Soccer Moms’ record, and their representation of this experimental piece infuses jazz into the mix. While Yoko’s piece was a mixture of psychedelia and banshee-like screaming, Aggressive Soccer Moms blended a bit of bebop and avant-garde into the mix. Ultimately, it’s a thoughtful take on the genre, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
