RAINING BLOOD, by Jeris Johnson and ZillaKami, has Slayer-approved interpolation.
You’ve probably heard Slayer’s “Raining Blood” a million times, but never quite like this. Jeris Johnson, who rose to fame on TikTok, has teamed together with City Morgue member ZillaKami to reimagine the Slayer classic for 2022.
You may recall Johnson from last year’s legendary remake of “Last Resort” with members of Papa Roach or his remix of “Can You Feel My Heart” with Bring Me the Horizon. Now he’s returned to add some ominous beats, a doomier feel, and some straight-up aggressiveness to Slayer’s musical assault, embodying what he calls “future grunge.”
“‘Raining Blood’ is a song I wrote solely to irritate aging rock fans,” Johnson adds. Also, that was my favorite song from Guitar Hero 3. I was simply in the mood for some loud ass mosh pit shit, and what better guitar riff to sample than one of the best of all time? Every time I perform live, I want to set the room on fire, and this is the track that will accomplish it. I invited ZillaKami to get on and contribute his energy, and I’m glad he did since he fucked it up. “Make blood rain.”
“I had a lot of fun working on ‘Raining Blood’ with Jeris, and I can’t wait for you to hear it,” ZillaKami added.
You can see the dramatic Brendan Barone-directed video below, and if you enjoy what you hear and see, you can purchase the song here.
In other news, Jeris Johnson will tour in support of his I WANT BLOOD / I WANT LOVE record in the coming months, joining the Korn / Evanescence tour with Helmet in August.
