Montreal-based artist Trinisha Browne makes a striking entrance into the music scene with her debut album “Rhythm & Love”, a vulnerable, sultry, and genre-fluid journey through identity, desire, and healing. Released on March 15, 2024, the album is a testament to Browne’s multifaceted artistry—seamlessly fusing R&B, Afrobeat, rap, and soul with unfiltered emotional storytelling. Drawing inspiration from icons like Burna Boy, Tems, and Jada Kingdom, Trinisha doesn’t just wear her influences—she reshapes them into something entirely her own.
The opening track, “Worth It”, sets the tone with electric, airy production and Browne’s signature breathy, high-pitched vocals flowing sensually through the mix. When the rap verse drops, it doesn’t feel jarring—it feels necessary. It’s a shift from seduction to urgency, expressing the ache of a one-sided romance.
Across the album, Browne invites us into deeply personal chapters of her life. On “Matchmade,” she reflects on a relationship that bloomed with intensity and ended in silence. Her voice sails across hazy ambient production with soothing, soulful wails, capturing the disorienting beauty of a love that feels predestined but proves fleeting. Then, on “Matchmade (Bee Boy$oul Remix),” she strips the mist back, allowing clean guitar and piano lines to bring the message into sharper relief. The bridge deepens, both vocally and emotionally, turning the track into something more grounded, but no less haunting.
Trinisha also gets candid on tracks like “Rihanna Rich” and “Rich Life,” confronting unemployment and bipolar disorder with raw honesty. There’s no posturing—just lived experience, layered in melody. Collaborations with Jovian and Temmie Ovwasa elevate the album’s sonic palette, with Ovwasa’s presence particularly significant in the context of queer African representation in music.
Recorded alone at her home studio, “Rhythm & Love” is a diary of survival. As Trinisha herself says, “mi nuh stress mi nuh cry everything on Oluwa time.” On her own time, and on her own terms, she’s arrived—and she’s worth every listen.
