In “Stand By You,” Riah delivers a soul-baring blues ballad. Featuring masterful contributions from guitarist El Javi and pianist Dominick Williams, the track has the dark-pop artist trading synths for sultry strings and letting her voice float raw and unguarded in a live studio performance. Captured in an intimate session at Conway Sound in Colorado, this is her first single from her upcoming album The Fourth Wall.
From the very first notes, the mood is set with soft, swooning guitar licks stretch out like sighs, and before a word is even sung, Riah smoky, sensual, and vulnerable hums comes. The sensuality and the pitch surprises me because of just how ethereal that sounds. Her voice, at once high, grainy, and full of quiver, glides slowly over gentle keys and warm plucked chords. Lyrically, she walks a tightrope between love and boundaries: “If I could mend for you, I’d lick all your wounds / But I can’t, so I’ve got to let you heal.” It’s one of many gut-punch lines in a song that understands what it means to love without rescuing, so they can grow on their own.
This is not a savior’s anthem—it’s a companion’s vow. Riah doesn’t position herself as the fixer but rather the witness, holding space for someone else’s pain without making it her own. The chorus, “I will stand by you, if you still want me to,” is filled with acceptance rather than demand. It’s rare to hear a song about love that’s this mature, this rooted in self-respect.
For an artist known for emotional intensity and “villain energy,” Riah’s restraint here is radical. “Stand By You” is a moment of grace. And in its quiet power, it invites us to reconsider what standing by someone really means. Check out the music video on YouTube and see her delivering those amazing bars right before your eyes.
