North Seattle, WA-based band Screen Frogs get frenetic in the woozy and hypnotic jungle of their latest album, Subterranean Wreckage Amidst Stolen Hues. Screen Frogs, comprised of brothers Will and Mike Bacon, along with Scott Minnich and Preston Lewis are taking you deep into the experimentation of psychedelic, garage rock, punk, and krautrock. If you are a fan of Oh Sees, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, or King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, you definitely need to check out these rockers.
From the opening track, “Hearth I,” Screen Frogs immerse you in what spans more than ten minutes of guitars glimmering alongside sparkly drums banging up, with reverberating vocals. The song evolves like a meditative exploration, vividly intensifying with howling vocals and pacing instrumentals.
“Xenesthis Immanis” bursts forth with manic energy, delivering a catchy and upbeat tune soaked in psychedelic haze. The infectious rhythm and danceable vibe make it an instant favorite. Moving on to “Transistor,” you will find yourself on a wild ride, with riffs building to a chaotic clash before descending into crisp and clean melodies chiming. The energetic vocal performance adds to the intensity by giving texture to the heady space.
“Fly on the Wall” continues the distorted energy, swinging and revving towards a lightheaded chiming that envelops you in its hypnotic, vacillating groove. The final track, “Hearth II,” brings the album to a climactic close leaving you exhilarated due to the gnarled guitars racing their blazing riffs in heavy distortion with hypnotic sound effects and thunderous drums.
