Recorded between a home studio and an arts studio in Glasgow during the winter of 2025, the record treats every song as a separate musical experiment rather than another variation of the last. Indie rock, synth-pop, ambient textures and left-field experimentation are all thrown into the same melting pot, resulting in an album that constantly keeps listeners guessing. Beneath its flashes of humour lies a darker meditation on modern psychology, creativity and the fractured state of contemporary society, making the collection feel both entertaining and surprisingly thought-provoking.
Right from the opening track, “GOTHS IN SUMMER,” the album establishes its unpredictable personality. Thick, steady beats create an insistent pulse while distant vocals drift through the mix with an almost dreamlike detachment, giving the performance a reckless, untamed quality. As the drums gradually rumble with greater intensity, the song blossoms into a hypnotic collision between post-punk atmosphere and experimental rock, setting the tone for the adventurous journey ahead.
Things take another sharp left turn with “WHATS FRENCH FOR ‘SELF IMPORTANT’?” Here, grinding guitars dominate the soundscape as handclaps inject an unexpected rhythmic bounce into the arrangement. Meanwhile, crashing drums intensify the momentum, producing a lively, chaotic energy that feels deliberately rough around the edges. It is playful, abrasive and oddly addictive, proving the band’s willingness to dismantle familiar rock conventions before rebuilding them in their own eccentric image.
Later, “SATURDAYS BLUE, SUNDAYS BLACK” delivers one of the album’s emotional high points. Gritty guitars roar beneath soaring vocals that embrace vulnerability with exhilarating abandon, creating a cathartic finale to one of the record’s strongest stretches. Throughout THE BROKEN MUSIC, CHAOS THEORY!!! constantly shifts gears without losing its artistic identity. The album invites listeners to interpret its moods and messages for themselves. It’s an unconventional, imaginative release that rewards adventurous ears with fresh discoveries on every revisit.
