After nearly two decades of writing, revisiting old recordings, and reshaping forgotten ideas, Gothenburg-based artist Eye Travel finally unveils The Rhythm of Mandolay, that comes like a musical expedition across continents, memories, and emotions.
Drawing inspiration from South America, Africa, and his native Gothenburg, Eye Travel crafts an eclectic sound that values feeling over perfection, allowing melodies to evolve organically through years of reinvention. Recorded at Cloudchamber Studio with Charles Storm handling the mixing, the album embraces contrasts where vintage recordings intertwine with fresh ideas, proving that time can become just another instrument in the creative process. Although its title hints at the dancefloor, The Rhythm of Mandolay explores how a single rhythm can transform a perspective and spark personal change.
Opening track “Holly” immediately establishes the album’s emotional sincerity. The arrangement grows gradually around the vocalist’s high, husky delivery as he sings with heartfelt devotion about longing for another’s hungry heart.
