Cardiff-based post-rock band ‘Aaronson’ has just unveiled their latest album, titled “The Great Swells That Carry Us Will Pull Us Under.” This impressive release features eight Post-Rock and Ambient tracks, amounting to nearly 44 minutes of sheer musical brilliance.
The journey begins with the track “Lowest Tide,” immediately immersing listeners in the crashing sounds of shore tides. The ethereal intro follows, evoking a sense of being in a fever dream before morphing into a post-rock anthem, gracefully swaying between dreamy alternative elements.
One of the standout tracks is the title track itself. The guitars ascend to celestial heights, accompanied by percussion that thunders like the unyielding force of nature. Each twist and turn takes the listener through an array of revelatory destinations without settling on a definitive one.
The album comes full circle with “Returns to the Surface,” a stunning 8-minute track that defies the boundaries of time, leaving you lost in its enchanting embrace, never wanting it to end. The outro brings back the crashing waves from the opening track, providing a satisfying sense of closure.
The narrative of the album follows a ship’s journey that starts at low tide, capturing the essence of human existence. Like a ship caught in the unfathomable depths of the sea, we find ourselves torn between forces beyond our control, yearning for safe passage yet lured by the excitement of diving deeper into the unknown. The constant push and pull between seeking safe passage and craving excitement mirrors the drama of a life pulled in multiple directions.
With its unique blend of Post-Rock and Ambient tracks, it’s a breathtaking album that will leave you yearning for a place you’ve never known but feel strangely connected to.
