The Roof Falls In by O’Reilly & Vincent: Review
Finn O’Reilly, a singer and guitarist from Dublin, and Rod Vincent, a poet from Shropshire, form the formidable O’Reilly & Vincent. Their upbeat track “The Roof Falls In” is all about a household catastrophe being met with a contemplative approach. All the while consuming the joyful belief that we can handle anything life presents as a counterpoint. The track is an exuberant tune with some tempo shifting between the verse and the chorus, along with some foot stomping, clapping, violin, and flute. It’s all acoustic, with Finn on guitar and Rod on acoustic bass.
The track starts off with a guitar lick that sounds like an Irish jig. Along with Finn’s voice, the entire arrangement sounds very exciting and somber at the same time. The latter expression comes into existence a little while after when the guitar strings are plucked with chords rather than individual notes. Then, a mellow violin piece is played, in addition to some flute too! Finn’s deep and melodic voice adds a perfect resonance to the track because most of the instruments are fast-paced, and his singing prowess is in balance with all of them.
Overall “The Roof Falls In” is an energetic track met with some beautiful almost melancholic transitions. I truly enjoy the Irish folk music influence on this song and wish to hear more from the dynamic duo. The track is available for streaming, and will definitely be able to resonate with audiences worldwide.
