The Universal Language by Dr Souc: Review
A mix between new-gen rap, hood, gangsta rap, and melodic instrumental rap, Dr Souc presents us with his top-tier work in the EP titled “The Universal Language”. It is truly a glorious album from start to finish filled with insane lyrics, fantastic rap flows, and vibing guitar pieces. Dr Souc is a rapper who is quite diversified and polished in his craft. He has such sway with the synth rhythms, keys, and guitar arrangements, performing like is a true boss. The synths remind me of the 90s and early 2000s rap melodic mixes, and it pays a true homage to that era all the while maintaining a modern touch as well.
The style of synth either follows an EDM manner or a standard rap-styled beat. All in all, Dr Souc’s spittin’ fire lyrics add a great background to it all. What I truly enjoyed were the keyboard and guitar arrangements on “Working” where the keys sound like icicles falling on the dance floor, kinda like the instrument xylophone. Then the bluesy guitar intro also adds a nice effect. When Souc enters with his hip hop freestyle it adds a fantastic flair to the entire track. Bravo!
The concept EP explores themes of development and maturation. Souc devotes every waking moment to honing his musical skills. Working together with his Dad will benefit both their professions in the long run. Dr. Souc’s father, Tim Soucy, played the guitar on the EP and played near-perfect notes on it. The guitar solos were very melodic and, it’s an intriguing thing to hear on a rap album, uncommon, and brilliant.
