Emerging Australian singer and producer Joel Sammut takes us on a nostalgic trip back to the grunge era with his latest single, “Trouble.” With his take on Primal Scream, Joel showcases his artistry and musical prowess in this alternative rock track.
Released on April 21st, “Trouble” showcases a conversation between two friends that leads to the narrator deciding to plunge into a risky relationship in the hypnotic chorus, “Oh yeah, hot damn, Do you think it’s risky, Trouble man.”
Joel conveys a dilemma between his heart and his mind in his verses and portrays the elements of his relationship with “I’ll get a love like that, dancing and living heart attack,” expertly showing us how it went from fun to confusing, followed by an explosion of contradictory emotions. It’s intriguing, to say the least, but mostly it’s relatable in this time when our love lives are bombarded with mishaps like these, especially as most of us like to lean towards making mistakes and learning things the hard way.
What sets “Trouble” apart is Joel’s ability to blend influences from different eras. The track showcases so much expertise with its 90s grunge and ongoing guitar experimentation in the background for a song that was produced in two days. Layered over these reflective elements are 80s and 90s-esque hip-hop beats. While Joel has created something totally fresh from his own talents, it takes us back to a golden musical era.
“Trouble” is a testament to Joel Sammut’s talent as an artist. It demands your immediate attention right now.
