Walai by Band Spectra featuring Olugbenga: Review
Walai is a powerful collaboration between Band Spectra and Olugbenga Adelekan that infuses electronic techniques with soulful rock aesthetics to create a unique sound that is both fast and heavy and soulful and introspective Inspired by various Death From Above Records alumni.
Coming off of the upcoming debut album, the song embodies the story of Band Spectra. It began as a therapeutic endeavor for Robert Manning to combat his declining health as a result of Multiple Sclerosis. With the help of Arts Council funding, he was able to make an album of remote collaborations to raise awareness for disability and diversity. This album is a testament to the determination and perseverance of disabled musicians who are often faced with significant barriers within the music industry.
The lyrics are particularly powerful and inspiring laying the ground for Olugbengaโs expressive vocals. The driving Moog bassline, Angelica Allenโs backing vocals, and Leo Abrahamโs expressive guitar all complement the lyrics and robustly bring the song together in a Muse-esque fashion. It is a truly moving and unforgettable track that showcases the talent and creativity of the artists and inspires the listeners in the process. The overall lyrical theme of the song can be applied to anybody without missing its inherent message.
Overall, the song is a great addition to your playlist regardless of the fact if youโre an electronic or rock fan.
