Hailing from Washington D.C., Deccan Traps is a band that intends to bring a cheerful atmosphere that also feels at home for its listeners. Having influences from a wide range of great artists and bands such as The Shins, Bowie, Lake Street Dive, and Willie Nelson. This EP is said to make you feel differently with each track while still staying true to their core themes and sounds.
โStruck in the Heartโ starts the EP off with a guitarโs upbeat tune and strumming, quickly followed by the clash of high hats and the snare of the drums following the same tempo. The song, from the get-go, sets the mood of when a person falls in love for the first time. As the name suggests, the song is about a person being โStruck in the Heartโ by someone and the singer is confessing about it.
โWatching the World,โ the title track of the EP, starts off with a soft, tranquil chord progression from a guitar, giving a sense of serenity and a place where the listener can feel at ease. This is further backed by the smooth yet mature-sounding voice of the vocalist, which further cements how the song is meant to feel. The lyrics depict about feeling stuck and unable to move on, and the struggles and introspection that came with trying to keep up with those around you. Seeing people in your life move on to better things, while you feel stuck. Seeing that thereโs room for you too, and being hopeful that one day you will join them.. With the soothing tempo of the drums following effortlessly the lead guitar, the chorus encompasses the sorrow and longing for the past lover that is not present in the singerโs life anymore.
From the intricate pop progression of โLavender Eyesโ to the soaring upbeat tempo of โFour in the Morning,โ the EP ends with another track called โJack Rose #5โ.The song captivates its audience with its allure of how it feels to be in love with someone you can call your soulmate.
