Released on June 15, 2025, “AggenAnonAggen Pt.2” by the Neil C. Young Trio is a beautifully introspective offering that stands apart from the trio’s usual electric-fusion leanings. Featured on the forthcoming EP AggenAnonAggen, this version trades in heavy FX for acoustic warmth, grounding the track in folk textures and spiritual nostalgia.
What began as a sync brief has evolved into something far more personal for Young, and you can hear it in every note. The song opens with gentle, deliberate acoustic guitar plucking. Then Katie Smethurst’s delicate voice enters like mist over still water, gliding in harmony with Young’s subtle vocal textures and airy, layered strings. Behind them, Miguel Boleta’s rustling percussion stirs quietly, while Dave Murray’s bass brings a mellow pulse. The trio, joined remotely from various parts of North West England, conjures an quiet, spacious atmosphere of shared reflection, full of longing.
As the track progresses, the pace lifts ever so slightly, with drums beginning to sparkle and flutter like footsteps on damp leaves. The guitar becomes brighter, its plucks more curious and playful, bringing a grounding and hopeful warmth. With no long improvised solos, the spotlight remains on the melody. The spiritual current running underneath it all evokes epiphanies you don’t notice until they’ve passed. Inspired in part by Neil’s arrangement of Bob Dylan’s “Wigwam,” the song also carries echoes of Jimmy Webb’s melodic sincerity.
“AggenAnonAggen Pt.2” is one of three variations of the same track. Stay tuned to the artist to await the upcoming EP, AggenAnonAggen.
