yeah. by Berlin w/ Stings: Review
Following his debut single, ‘All Our Friends!!’ the singer-songwriter, producer and composer Max Berlin’s project Berlin w/ Strings continues the trend of blending cinematic orchestration with contemporary sound in his double single release, Marion/yeah.
On the second track of the single, Max Berlin continues his magic of mixing film scoring. The second song feels like a sequel to the first song’s story, Marion. The suspense that was built in the first song reaches its climax and smoothly transitions into a more jazz-influenced sound that gradually builds up on odd time signatures and melodies coming from all around in a soundscape that is so organized in its chaos. The vocals and the stringed instruments have these jazzy melodies that would sound so unconventional in a pop song and the harmonies have this hypnotic character. The dynamics of the vocal over the punchy drums played in odd meters give out an unsettling rapture vibe because of the almost dark ambient background. The juxtaposition of these two vibes really carry over the tension from the first track and highlights the brilliance of Max Berin’s film scoring skills and his finesse as a composer.
