Addlepated by The Ocelots: Review
A song about love between two made-up fairytale characters, it talks about the struggle of their superficial and genuine compatibility. The word “addlepated,” which means “distracted” or “confused,” is aptly used to describe a giant who lacks perspective. It says,
“I called Alice from the garden wall…
She said she wants someone who is less than twelve -feet tall…
I’m falling in love with someone who is more than half my size”
The song starts with a beautiful piano progression. With the airy husky voice of the singer. It goes in a slower tempo that makes the listeners lean a bit and groove along. The harmonica gives it a modern touch of blues, and country rock. Giving the entire song a punch of goodness. The rhythm is heartwarming that does take us to Neverland. A fairytale song couldn’t have been better than this one. Just like a dream we want to live on to. It has lovely lyrics of love that tells the audience a story.
This song is the opening track of The Ocelots’ “Addlepated.” The majority of the performance was captured in The Ocelots’ home studio, but they also ventured to an abandoned Saxon school hall to record the piano and traveled from Wexford to New York to complete the recording. Ashley and Brandon Watson’s project, The Ocelots, is their brainchild.
