Swedish jazz trio Three Small Giants is back, and As Silent as Dawn Came: Extended 2025 is here to prove that jazz is thriving, grooving, and dangerously infectious. With nothing but an upright bass, a guitar, and Karina Kampe’s velvet-smooth vocals, TSG crafts a sound so rich and full that you’d swear they had an entire big band hiding behind them. Their blend of James Brown-inspired funk, playful energy, and precise musicianship makes this album feel like a warm embrace and a sassy slap.
Opening with “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” the trio takes Paul Simon’s classic and spins it into a sultry, jazz-infused conversation. Kampe’s voice is thick with warmth and understated sass as she lists off the many ways to say goodbye, her phrasing effortless yet full of nuance. Meanwhile, the guitar and bass weave a moody, late-night groove that’s impossible to resist.
And then there’s “Doodlin’” with unfiltered fun. If procrastination had a theme song, this would be it. The playful rhythm skips along as Kampe sings in a chatty, carefree tone, turning everyday doodling into an art form. By the time the song hits full stride, the trio’s chemistry gets electric with technical brilliance and lighthearted charm.
The album closes on “Twisted,” a sassy, witty track that embraces its own eccentricity. Kampe’s delivery is effortless as she shrugs off the world’s opinions. It’s catchy, confident, and the perfect send-off to an album that refuses to take itself too seriously while still delivering some seriously good jazz.
As Silent as Dawn Came: Extended 2025 is liquid luxury with a playful twist, an album that swings, sways, and struts with confidence. Check it out on Spotify.
