If you’re a music lover and are following certain artists, you know that feeling and satisfaction of being able to at least know what’s happening behind the scenes. There are different types of music documentaries — some are about what’s happening at a specific concert or the personal story of a musical legend. Kudos to movie producers and directors who have produced biopics, concert movies, and others that gave us a real glimpse into the lives of our idols.
If you’re looking for some of the best music documentaries for your next TV streaming session, we’ve got some exciting recommendations for you to watch. Let’s start!
The Greatest Night in Pop (2024)
The Greatest Night in Pop is a relatively new Netflix documentary about the night in 1985 when music legends like Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Cyndi Lauper, and others recorded the song “We Are the World” for famine relief. The documentary is not only about how these big stars gathered to record a song. It will also show old footage and know the stories about how they managed tight deadlines and big egos in one studio session. It’s only a 90-minute watch, so it’s a fun watch that won’t keep you glued to your device for a long time.
The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart (2020)
If you’ve bopped to the songs How Deep Is Your Love, Stayin’ Alive, and To Love Somebody, you’ll enjoy this documentary. It’s a documentary about the story of Bee Gees and how their journey to fame went about, including their ups and downs. You’ll see archival clips, stories from other big stars, and interviews.
You’ll understand how tight the brothers really were and how amazing it was to see them handle their highs and lows throughout their career. Right now, you can watch this on several streaming services, including Max, Apple TV+, and Prime Video. Just make sure you have a stable internet connection, as it is almost 2 hours long.
Michael Jackson’s This Is It (2009)
Of course, no one should miss This Is It. If you’re an MJ fan, you will appreciate this documentary more than ever because, as we all know, he was preparing for his comeback concert that didn’t happen because he had already passed away. This film was bittersweet because we know he was doing what he loved in his last days. As of now, you can watch this documentary on select streaming services, including Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video, Peacock Premium, and Netflix.
No Direction Home (2005)
Ever heard of Bob Dylan a.k.a. the man behind Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door and Blowin’ in the Wind? No Direction Home is about Bob Dylan’s story and how he went from a small-time folk singer in New York to a music legend. Of course, you’ll see lots of old clips and hear from young Bob Dylan. It was also shown how he changed the electric music in 1965. It’s a bit long at about 3.5 hours, but it has a lot of great stories. Totally perfect if you’re a Bob Dylan fan!
Quincy (2018)
Quincy is such a beautiful documentary about Quincy Jones. It’s also partly directed by his daughter Rashina Jones, which makes this documentary a bit more meaningful. Quincy has worked with other big stars like Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson. You’ll also learn about his health problems, family situation, and his entire story that made him who he is today.
Final Thoughts
There are lots of great music documentaries that are available on many streaming services. It doesn’t even matter if you’re just a fan of a few or a music lover in general, you’ll seriously love these documentaries we’ve shared. Happy watching!
