Some musicians like using their platforms and their voices to call out injustice. “Black Crosses in the Sun” by AURORA BY NOON speaks up on wars, crises, tragedies, life, and love in a most poetic manner. Markus Sumereder devised the immaculate lyricism to give the album the depth it has today. Other than being the songwriter, he is also the leader, organizer, manager, and album producer—he’s basically the originator behind AURORA BY NOON and the reason we are hearing this ingenious alternative rock album today.
The 12-tracked debut album, “Black Crosses in the Sun,” released this February 28th, has a contemporary appeal to it while mixing traditional and classical elements and sounds within its hold, making itself a favorite to all sorts of rock music lovers. The more soulful tracks like “Go with the Flow” and “Thief in the Mirror” bring this genric diversity to the album that we love.
Starting off with “Dirty Rules, Dirty Game,” we get the gist of energetic electric guitar riffs, electrifying cymbals, and smashing drums. The vocals are intense and passionately vivid in portraying the soul within the lyrics.
While “Dirty Rules, Dirty Game” was a heartfelt intro to the album, it was the build-up to the runner-up track, “Black Crosses in the Sun.” The 2nd track hangs a poetic illusion over a dreadful reality of wars.
The lyrics in the track “Black Crosses in the Sun” portray a double entendre of the black cross to be a despondent cry for help, and I presume that’s probably why the album is named “Black Crosses in the Sun.” Just my take, but whatever the meaning is, it is a brilliant one, as is the rest of this album.
