“Blast Off” by The Party After propels listeners straight into orbit musically and emotionally. Released on July 29, 2025, the explosive single from the Omaha-based trio serves as the high-voltage opener to their debut album Dopamine Machine. After fifteen years of friendship and musical experimentation, the band, made up of Jared “Badsquatch” Gottberg, Tony “Bony Tates” Bates, and Derek “Fooligan” Talburt, has finally found lift-off, channeling years of setbacks, heartbreak, and creative struggle into what they call “dystopian party rock.” Recorded at Mexico City’s famed Topetitud Estudios, the song crackles with the intensity of a group that’s fought tooth and nail to reclaim their sound and story.
The track opens with a countdown, “T-minus five, four, three, two, one, zero, and liftoff,” before a wall of distorted guitar grinds to life, like a rocket tearing through the atmosphere. The cymbals crash violently, splashing like waves against jagged rocks, while the bass thrums with a fierce pulse that sets the song ablaze. The lead vocalist’s husky timbre cuts through the chaos with both vigor and despondency, capturing the push-pull of fame’s allure and the emptiness lurking beneath it. His voice carries grit and grief as it builds tension that never quite resolves, symbolizing the chase towards the glitter of stardom without grasping its cost.
As the chorus explodes, “So you wanna be a star / You wanna go real far,” it gets off like an anthem and an accusation. There’s exhilaration here, sure, but also a creeping sense of dread, as though the high is seconds from crashing. “Blast Off” is, at its core, a cautionary tale dressed up in thunderous riffs and adrenaline. Loud, raw, and electrifying, it’s a defiant scream against the dark side of fame. Stay tuned to The Party After for similar sounds.
