Afternoon In The Park’s latest track “Blood Cocktail,” the sixth entry on their debut album Livin’ Around The Sun, is a swirling blend of indie rock swagger, existential storytelling, and vintage sonic texture. The band, comprising Yamin Alma (vocals, guitar), Ari (guitar), Julien (drums), and Thomas (bass), leans into familiar territory to pay homage to their influences (think The Strokes, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys), while carving a poetic path uniquely their own.
The track kicks off with glistening guitar riffs that shimmer like heatwaves on pavement, layered over thumping, unpretentious drum patterns that immediately pull you into the groove. Yamin’s high voice enters with a steady, almost dazed coolness, his tone, tinged with a cinematic detachment that grows more emotionally charged as the song unfolds. His storytelling is subtle but evocative, giving us flickers of a tale wrapped in longing and rebellion.
Then the chorus explodes. Cymbals crash like electric rain and the guitars start grinding with a gritty insistence, bringing that classic garage rock energy into full bloom. The cocky, infectious rhythm here is something between a head-nod and a dance sway as it pulses beneath the surface, pulling you deeper into the song’s vibe. It’s catchy and emotionally agile. And by the final chorus, Yamin’s voice climbs and soars, now flushed with urgency and fire, as the drums rumble below and the guitars blaze like a final exclamation.
Recorded with vintage gear at the analog haven of Stéréodrome near Perpignan, “Blood Cocktail” is both raw and refined with textured production with livewire energy. It’s a standout track in a concept album that maps emotional evolution across planetary revolutions.
With their upcoming Pellicu-Live Festival set this October, Afternoon In The Park proves they’re spinning around the sun just to catch fire. Mark your calendars and stay tuned.
