“Get Up” by Getting Started is an indie rock gem and introductory title track from their EP that brings vulnerability next to a drive, getting intimate and anthemic altogether. Recorded at Chicago’s Gravity Studios, where legends like The Smashing Pumpkins and Fall Out Boy have cut tracks, this song carries that same spirit of raw passion and big-room energy.
It starts off modestly with a fuzzy lone guitar riff. Then the drums enter, rolling and pounding with purpose, and suddenly you’re off, swept into a melodic, reflective and restless build.
Frontman Jack Gallo delivers the lyrics with a charming voice, weathered with emotional overwhelm. There’s something weary in his tone, like someone who’s been through the cycles of hope and disappointment too many times but still hasn’t lost the will to keep trying. He sings about the kind of fights that repeat, the kind lovers swear they won’t have again but always do. And yet, beneath the exhaustion, there’s a silver lining, the faith in making up, in enduring, in getting back up. That emotional tug is what makes the lyrics land so hard, especially when the music starts to swell and shimmer midway through.
Guitars burst into sparkly riffs, cymbals crash like fireworks, and the drums bring it all back to the ground with weight and urgency. By the end, the repetition of “get up” feels like a mantra, not just a lyric. Gallo’s voice soars over the thick instrumentals like a call to arms. It’s like his spirit is calling him to still standing after everything’s come undone. That’s what makes “Get Up” hit home.
Getting Started, as a young band, are already punching far above their weight—and this NYC debut at the Bowery Ballroom on June 6th promises to be electric. Check it out on Spotify from their EP of the same name.
