“Danza” wraps around you like a warm breeze at dusk—delicate, intricate, and impossibly beautiful. Patricio Anabalon, the Chilean singer-songwriter and poet, joins forces with the legendary Silvio Rodríguez. Released on February 14, 2025, this long-awaited collaboration is a deeply felt tribute to the troubadour tradition, layered with poetic introspection and breathtaking musicianship.
From the very first notes, shimmering guitar riffs ripple and dance, their soft strums bending and sparkling like light on water. Patricio’s voice enters, gentle and measured, as if carefully tracing each lyric with reverence. The Cuarteto Austral’s string arrangements begin to swirl around him, swelling in intricate, writhing layers, filling the space with an almost cinematic grandeur. It’s a song that moves at its own pace, unhurried yet deliberate, pulling the listener into its contemplative embrace.
Javier Farías’ production and arrangement serve as the backbone so rich and textured that each note feels essential. Given Farías’ impressive collaborations, with the likes of Andy Summers from The Police and jazz virtuoso Mike Stern, it’s no surprise that “Danza” carries an air of sophistication. The addition of Chilean percussionist Felipe Candia adds rhythmic nuance, complementing the song’s reflective nature while elevating its depth.
And then there’s Silvio. His unmistakable voice, a beacon of poetry and revolution for over 50 years, melds seamlessly into the track, his presence lending an undeniable weight to the song’s narrative. The production, handled by Tomás Pérez and mastered by Gonzalo “Chalo” González, ensures the clarity of every note and emotion.
“Danza” is a conversation between generations of songwriters and it creates a moment suspended in time—one you’ll want to return to again and again. Check it out on Spotify.
