London-based trio Two Sevens return with “Demons,” a striking new single that sharpens their identity at the intersection of indie electro, synthwave, and modern indie pop. Made up of Londoners Matthew and Paul alongside Finnish vocalist Mimi, the band has been steadily carving out a space where atmosphere and emotion do the heavy lifting. With Matthew’s pedigree including a past EMI signing and collaboration with Young Marble Giants’ Stuart Moxham, and Paul’s instinct for beats and shimmering synth textures, Two Sevens sound confident in their skin here. “Demons” arrives as one of their most focused and intoxicating releases yet, pairing a sleek sonic palette with a darkly relatable emotional core.
The song opens in a haze of shimmering, buzzing electronics that immediately set a nocturnal mood. Mimi’s high, expressive voice floats in gently, layered over meditative humming. As the track unfolds, the drums begin to thump harder, anchoring the dreaminess with a steady, insistent pulse. The production slowly tightens its grip, cymbals splashing and synths churning as the music grows punchier and more urgent, mirroring the emotional descent in the lyrics.
Lyrically, “Demons” explores the moment when a dream lover turns into something far more dangerous. Lines like “You took me high, where I saw stars / I fell for you in corner bars” capture the intoxication of desire, while the recurring refrain, “The demons I have are lying inside my head,” drives home the lasting psychological fallout. Mimi delivers these lines with a mix of vulnerability and resolve, sounding both haunted and defiant as the chorus repeats and intensifies. By the time she sings, “My demons are real, and put in my head by you,” the song’s emotional thesis lands with full force.
Visually, the single artwork reinforces the mood, pairing original artwork by Danny Levy with design from Belita Edi to reflect the track’s shadowy intensity. All told, “Demons” is a tightly crafted, hook-laden release that proves Two Sevens know exactly how to balance beauty and menace.
