Many people with insecurities don’t realize that the problem lies within the devil in the mirror, not with themselves for being their truest selves in their own bodies. Karen Harding couldn’t have addressed the insecurities any better than in her single, “Devil in The Mirror.” It’s an electro-pop song with an 80s bassline and addictive driving drum rhythms that will make you want to dance to it. Karen’s tender and rich voice is the pinnacle of perfection in this catchy song, with her vocal range belting high notes from ethereal lows. She takes you to the land of gothic Moores and castles of faeries, angels, and demons.
“Devil in the Mirror” is a track featuring Karen’s insecurities and self-doubt stemming from the words in her mind whispered to her by a woman in the mirror who tells her that she’s not good enough.
In her first verse or pre-chorus, Karen explores the realm of her intrusive thoughts by what she sees in her reflection. It’s a manifestation of modern society projecting fake ideals onto women making them pin one another down. But she turns it around after her chorus with the verse: “I try to change her/ She’s always the same/ Reminding me of the mistakes and the shame/ I wish that I could break free from her home/ But she’s a part of me/ A story to be told.”
With a beckoning and reverberating rich voice, Karen has related to thousands of women in “Devil in the Mirror” and even men out there who don’t feel good in their own skin.
