Instrumental project Aptøsrs, helmed by Independent Music Award-nominated composer, songwriter, and producer Paul Terry, takes us through various moods, genres, and landscapes with its ambient debut album, Elders. Released on March 29, the debut gets experimental and highly interpretive with its expansive combination of cinematic, electronic, and rock influences.
The opening track, “Rust Mountain,” draws us into atmospheric ambiance and ominous rock vibes. As the song builds, suspense mounts, and the beats drop with a heavy, intimidating blow, setting the stage for the enigmatic journey ahead.
“A Peaceful Way To Defy Them All” continues Elders‘ brooding atmosphere, with heavy undertones and rustling beats giving way to shimmering piano tones to show that not every “no” has to be a fight.
In “Nothing But Recall,” pulsating beats and synths create a mesmerizing backdrop for reflective piano melodies. The music shimmers with nostalgia, shining a light on the past while embracing the present moment.
“Questionnaires” takes a calm and contemplative turn as the track unfolds with gentle piano tones and subtle instrumentation. Finally, Elders concludes with “Encore, Vredefort,” a masterful blend of deep piano tones, orchestral flourishes, and electrifying beats. As the song builds to a crescendo, splashing cymbals and glitzy sharp edges create a dreamy, hazy atmosphere that leaves a lasting impression.
Behind Elders is Adam Noble (known for his work with Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves, and Don Broco) for mixing and Grammy-award nominee Robin Schmidt (renowned for his collaborations with Pixies, Royal Blood, and Wolf Alice) for mastering. With expert hands in collaboration, Elders gives you the first best of Aptøsrs. Only more to follow.
