Flo Frequency is the brainchild of London producer-DJ Nav Bhatt, who folds three decades of crate-digging and spiritual practice into Elevation, a debut album. Made in velvet R&B, pulsing grooves, and resonant bass, Bhatt’s project aims to lift you, literally a frequency you inhabit rather than background noise.
Right out the gate, “Intro” mesmerizes with piano that glides like light across water and cool, catchy beats. Meanwhile, the singer’s voice comes off like a tender soprano quivering and soaring, setting a sacred room for what follows. From there, the record luxuriates in deep grooves and careful dynamics, where the space is used as an instrument, and the mixes let the low end breathe so the vocals keep warm and serene.
“Know By Now” slinks along on sharp, tapping percussion while a soulful lead tries to soothe a partner’s paranoia. Meanwhile, “I Don’t Play” flips nonchalant confidence into manifesto, as she sings that she’s “playing” for her “soul,” not a scoreboard, then midway slips into razor-sharp rap that snaps the track awake and gives it bite.
Later, “The Feeling” slows everything down to a candlelit reverie, with snapping fingers to keep things organic, opening with a woodwind that snakes up like a memory, and layered harmonies that lift behind a soft, deep groove.
All told, Elevation is faithful to its name, as it transcends to the soulful, intentional, and surprisingly cinematic. Flip it on when you want to calm the noise, raise the vibes, or fall into something that feels like a hug from the inside out. Bhatt’s blend of faith and soul doesn’t sermonize; it invites. In short, Flo Frequency offers warmth and uplift — a record to live in, not just listen to. Turn it up tonight, seriously.
