THE THEORY serves as a compelling introduction to MOMARZโs broader artistic vision, with the complete 16-track album scheduled for release on 28th May 2026.
MOMARZ, hailing from Boston, United States, is a remarkable musician known for his unique approach to music. With a focus on piano-rooted melodies, hypnotic percussion sequences, and a variety of instruments including the Yamaha electronic piano P-125, KORG microKEY, and M-VAVE MIDI piano, MOMARZ crafts a sound that is both captivating and emotive. Notably, he eschews the use of AI in his production process, relying solely on GarageBand to bring his musical visions to life. His incorporation of synthwave electronic elements adds a layer of analog warmth and emotional resonance to his tracks, setting him apart as a truly innovative artist. Check out the exclusive Interview below:

1. Your roots can often shape your journey. Can you share a story or moment from your early life that had a significant impact on your path into music?
MOMARZ: My introduction to electronic music was sparked by Rob Douganโs โClubbed to Deathโ from The Matrix soundtrack. This initial interest grew into a deeper exploration of the genre throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, where I spent time in Silicon Valley record stores discovering influential artists like Daft Punk, The Prodigy, and The Chemical Brothers.
Inspired by these electronic music pioneers, I began experimenting with music production by emulating their unique styles. Using a drum kit and a Yamaha electronic keyboard, I developed a rudimentary multi-tracking process: I would first record a drum track, play it back through a stereo system, and then record a live keyboard layer over it to create a complete composition on a cassette recorder.
2. Did your musical journey begin with formal training, or was it more of a personal exploration? How has that shaped your unique approach to your craft?
MOMARZ: Growing up in Sunnyvale, California, I began my formal musical training at the age of 5, learning piano for 5 years before transitioning to percussion and drum kit from ages 10 to 13. Throughout my training, I leaned towards original compositions, often preferring to experiment with my own arrangements rather than strictly adhering to the standard curriculum provided by my music teachers.
3. Who were some of the most influential figures in your early musical life, and how did they inspire your sound? Also, whatโs the story behind choosing the name โMOMARZโ?
MOMARZ: The most influential figures in my early musical development were Daft Punk, Rob Dougan, The Prodigy, and The Chemical Brothers. My style attempts to blend the cinematic grandeur of Rob Dougan with the high-octane beats. I try to incorporate The Prodigyโs aggressive, rhythmic urgency and The Chemical Brothersโ dense, driving percussion, utilizing these hard-hitting frameworks to ground complex, piano-rooted melodies. Similar to Daft Punk, I prioritize strong melodic hooks and vivid synth textures, resulting in an โelectronic-orchestralโ sound that bridges the gap between a modern film score and a high-energy club track.
The name MOMARZ is a professional fusion of my personal identity. โMOโ represents my initials, while โMarzโ is a long-standing nickname derived from my legal first name, commonly used by friends and family.
4. What do you believe sets your music apart? How would you describe your sound to someone discovering you for the first time, and what emotions or experiences do you hope to evoke in your listeners?
MOMARZ: Blending classical piano roots with modern electronic production, I create a โfiercely humanโ sound designed to challenge the automated trends of the current industry. My music offers a textured, cinematic experience, favoring authentic emotional depth over over-processed production. I focus on delivering high-energy, thought-provoking tracks that foster a genuine, profound connection with the listener.
5. For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style, which is known as electronic music?
MOMARZ: My foundational understanding of electronic music is rooted in studying 90s legends. However, when composing, I intentionally curate a โsonic silenceโ regarding outside music for several hours. This practice ensures my creative output remains authentic and personal. This philosophy aligns with guidance I received from a music industry veteran, who stressed that establishing a truly unique sound requires prioritizing oneโs own ideas over popular trends.
6. Can you walk us through your creative process? From the first spark of an idea to the finished track, whatโs the most essential part of your process, and how do collaboration or external influences shape your work?
MOMARZ: I approach production by developing a drum-first rhythmic groove to guide the vibe, later layering piano melodies and electronic sound design. I prioritize a long-term, iterative arrangement process, allowing tracks to evolve over months before adding vocal samples. Sound quality is ensured through rigorous car-stereo referencing to ensure mix translation. Finally, I solicit feedback from trusted peers, structure the EP/album for flow, and execute a comprehensive, multi-platform release strategy (digital and physical CDs).
7. Whatโs been the most challenging hurdle in either your personal life or music career, and how has it shaped you as an artist?
MOMARZ: In 2012, a chronic health condition challenged my early career ambitions, limiting opportunities and forcing me to pivot from my original goals. However, this adversity led me to music again, which became a channel for creative excellence. Music has enabled me to overcome the limitations imposed by my illness, offering a renewed pathway to reach my full potential and connect with others through shared experiences.
8. On the flip side, what moment or achievement in your career so far has made you feel the proudest, and why? And letโs talk about your latest release and future plans.
MOMARZ: I am completely overwhelmed by the buzz surrounding THE THEORY. The journey to this point was filled with obstacles, and seeing it all come together feels like a miracle. Iโm savoring every moment of this incredible experience. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine my music would resonate with listeners worldwide, and I am so grateful to finally share it with you all.
Iโm currently working on another album right now and Iโm taking everything that I learned from this experience and applying it to my next album. I donโt have an estimated date for when I release it, but Iโm hoping to build off of The Theory and take my music journey to the next level. Iโm open to hearing offers from record labels, and they can directly message me on instagram @momarz99.
9. With social media having a heavy impact on our lives and the music business in general, how do you handle criticism, haters, and/or naysayers in general? Is it something you pay attention to, or simply ignore?
MOMARZ: When it comes to my music, the focus is on creative freedom, not following trance, synthwave, techno, or house, industry standards. Iโve often been told my sound doesnโt fit into a specific, mainstream category, but that doesnโt matter to me. I create to connect and innovate, not to churn out processed, formulaic tracks. I welcome feedback that helps me grow, but I ignore the noise that tries to limit my artistic vision.
10. Do you think is it important for fans of your music to understand the real story and message driving each of your songs, or do you think everyone should be free to interpret your songs in their own personal way?
MOMARZ: My music is designed to be a personal, interpretive experience, allowing each listener to forge their own unique connection. THE THEORY features a diverse range of electronic styles specifically curated to resonate with the listenerโs immediate mood. It has been encouraging to read initial reviews and observe how different people connect with the music in unique ways. Seeing such varied, personal reactionsโwhere no two listeners experience the album exactly the same wayโwas my ultimate goal, and I am pleased to see that vision resonate.โ
