Edie Yvonne, a rising star in the indie pop scene, released her first EP, “GIRL CODE,” on Aug 28. The EP features six tracks, including the previously released singles “2U” and “Duh.”
The EP’s opening track, “15(When I Leave),” sets the tone for the record with its infectious melody and luscious vocals. The song is catchy, soaked in a wall of sound of thumping drums.
“Delusion” is another standout track, with its catchy rhythm and punchy, hypnotic vibe. The way Edie Yvonne sings is hypnotic. The music has a more intoxicating vibe with the melodies grooving, pulsating and the beats hitting hard. She sings about being delusional, obsessive and secretive about her infatuations.
“2U” is a more gritty and raw track. The fuzzy soundscape wraps around the singer’s high, clear voice like confusion. The song’s lyrics capture the feeling of emotional turmoil of heartbreak, only to move on and let go of the past.
“Duh” has a groovy, moody and head-nodding rhythm and a heavy bass over which Yvonne sings lazily and sultrily. Coming up next, “Queen Bee” has soulful ethereal harmonies vocalizing in the back which she sings about being friends with the queen bee who betrays her. The song has shimmering immersive instrumentals surrounding her in a sparkly haze.
Last song, “Girl Code” rustles with wet riffs and hard beats. Yvonne diaristically sings about a back-stabbing friend who betrayed her. She sings, “You always at my back just to stab it/You go find me a boy just to grab him.”
With her EP release and upcoming performance with Jack Xander, Edie Yvonne is poised to make a significant impact on the indie pop scene. Stay tuned for more hits.
