Girondolini by Girondolini: Album Review
Fasten your seatbelt folks, this one’s gonna be a wild ride. Our journey takes us on Girondolini’s path, who is a profound musician with a masterclass in creating funky beats and gripping tracks. Their self-titled album involves various genres such as old-school hip hop, ambient, funk, and a bit of soul too. With such a variety in effect, the album is a banger from start to finish, and a memorable experience to have.
Before diving into the album’s deets, you gotta know the vast number of artists who accompanied Girondolini. July Skone, PremRock, Harry Dean Lewis, Eloui, and Sam Irl all put in their best efforts alongside the aforementioned musician. So much so, that each song feels like a passion project that was honed to perfection. From the opening hip-hop flow of “Breathe Deep,” we get a glimpse of the album’s magic. In it, a catchy electro-bass exists, alongside synths and lively drumming. Aside from that, a resonant rapper owns the mic. The ode follows through with “The Monk”, albeit with a relatively mellow mix. The rhythm here is more bluesy and the bass has a lovely vibe going.
“Multiplexer” brings graceful singing into the album. On top of glitch-hop layers, and swift beats, a charming vocalist greets the song. Afterward, a surprise twist of Reggae and Ska make an entrance in “AC.” It’s an instrumental number that has one of the most creative drummings I’ve heard in a while. Man, those were some groovy rolls!
