Have you ever tried running away from your heartbeat? Chances are, you have. Not literally, but what we mean by that is that you have tried running from your feelings and the direction your heart takes after a few yet, life-changing mishaps, havenโt you? Well, Jakob the Liar did. You can relate to that. But can you relate to relating this phenomenon to a certain backseat? Wellโฆ Jakob can, once again.
Life can be momentous with fears. However, Jakob decided to change things over in his single, Heartbeat, from his upcoming album, The Great Awakening. He sings, now I am taking charge of my own beat of my heart. Because we realise after a time of running that you can only run so far, and the Earth being round will get you back to square 1.
This single starts with his breathy voice, reverbed, with a beat that resonates with an actual heartbeat. Right after, begins a soft acoustic guitar and a soft indie synth wave.
You get an urban, North-American or Brooklyn bar vibe from the track, especially when his voice gets louder yet stays breathy in the chorus while the guitar sounds hitting harder in a soft-rock pattern.
The song has a slow tempo that only rises in the chorus, yet the depth is perpetually felt throughout the song with his breathy song depicting his forlorn yet prolonged struggle with himself.
