The Harbours’ latest single, “Locked In,” released this September 13, once again gets behind modern relationships. The 4th single of the year, this song becomes an anthem for the youth with indie-pop hooks and relatable authenticity. Produced by Ollie Drakard and Will Massarella-Tyler, “Locked In” kicks off with building riffs and drums that end up in a contagious drum roll and bring forth a storm of lush instrumentals, engulfing us. The production is crisp and textured, creating a sense of energy that immediately draws listeners in.
The lead singer’s voice adds a layer of authenticity to the track, with a candid, storytelling tone that seamlessly fits the emotional weight of the lyrics. His vocals are engaging as they balance vulnerability with strength. As the song progresses, the backing vocals create a sense of space, expanding the sonic landscape as they harmonize into the distance before the guitars become grittier, and the singer delivers the chorus with an anthemic, sing-along quality that’s both memorable and infectious.
Lyrically, “Locked In” touches on themes of heartbreak, longing, and personal struggle. Lines like “I cope by drinking/ To put on a smile/ And forget about you for a while” show raw, emotional honesty as the protagonist grapples with feelings of loss. As the singer repeats, “Look in my eyes / Tell me I’m dreaming / Time passes by / Over and over,” the track gives away the unstoppable cycle of emotional turmoil from which there seems to be no release.
Listen to Locked In by The Harbours to have yourself singing along, for you might just relate to each and every line like it’s the soundtrack of your soul.
