Matinee by Erik Evy: EP Review
Erik Evy had me impressed from the first second of “Sunday morning”, a ditty little track of 2 minutes where he raps about the world sunken down by the recent fatal virus and pandemic, accompanied by a monophonic melody and beat. He’s practical and keeps it articulate with his expressions, with cleverly written poetry.
In part two of the series, just like Erik announces, “Intrinsic”, he leaves deep messages for his listeners to find. He tells stories about changing times, with smooth narrations drawn from personal experiences. The 3rd track “Bridges” is another beauty, some auto-tune vocals layered with finesse, and a classic emcee thrown in between. This is the kind of song that will play in your brain for days. He sounds like a baby Eminem, which is a huge compliment as it is, and I really think the rapgod himself might nod in approval of “Matinee” too! What’s remarkable about this track is how openly this artist discusses ideas that most people would rather not discuss even with themselves. The last track “Promises” starts out with a female voice singing from a casual at-home video and carries on while Erik spits fire.
I think Erik Evy has a lot of potential, just from listening to four songs from his EP “Matinee”. He’s got a great balance of tradition and something fresh, adding musical elements to give us a top-notch and crisp sound. I highly recommend y’all to go check him out right now!
