Omer Netzer’s debut U.S. single, “Midnight Blue,” is a rich, emotional piece of music that shows how grief and love lets on after love has left the room. Released May 30, the track plants the Israeli singer-songwriter firmly on Nashville soil with a sound that’s both timeless and deeply personal.
The track opens with a ghostly folk ambiance as jangling percussive shakes, mellow drum thumps, and warm, aching guitar strums wail just beneath the surface. There’s an immediate weariness, an emotional weather front rolling in. When Netzer’s voice enters, it’s thick and grounded, reflective like someone recounting a dream that never quite left them. The chorus brings a shift as his vocals grow raspy, gnarly. The drums rumble with heavier weight as the song intensifies, echoing the emotional burden of lyrics like, “my sun set when I lost you, now every night feels like midnight blue.”
Midway through, the track takes a breath. The warm, mellow tones like that of the Hammond organ glide in, offering a brief, almost spiritual reprieve, a flicker of calm before the final storm. Then the last chorus returns with more grit, the guitars churn louder, and Netzer’s voice climbs higher, rawer, closing the song in a swell of heartbreak and grace.
Produced by David “Messy” Mescon and co-written with Stephen Hunley, “Midnight Blue” blends classic country soul with subtle blues roots. Check it out on YouTube if you like that stuff.
