Paulcito takes us out of this world with his latest album, MVP. Produced by Carl Dennis, Paul Reynolds, the man behind Paulcito, gets behind the best mixture of synth-pop psychedelic rock sounds to pop music that is effortlessly catchy, cool, feverish, and freaky.
The album opens with “Love Complete,” a simple yet intellectually melancholy ode to lost love. Paulcito’s raspy vocals harmonize beautifully with the guitar and slowly immerse us through the introspection. “Biden Popped the Chinese Spy Balloon” comes third with mysterious spooks as Paulcito gets political with a lightness to it.
“Candlepin Star” stands out as the heart of the album with its catchy keys and spoken word poetry. He weaves an engaging tale of a man beginning with a happy marriage, a successful career, and fame, leading to failure and losing everything, including his sanity. He turns to probing into existential reflection, with the last lines, “A Candlepin star/goodbye to the show,” being his introspective resolution.
“Por Que Me Miras Asi” injects a dose of infectious, quirky Spanish groove into the album, showcasing Paulcito’s versatility and flair for experimentation. The upbeat and trippy tempo is your invitation to dance to the irresistible rhythm.
“Up the Wazoo” rounds out the album with dynamic energy. The song gets turning with catchy guitar and catchy performance and enhancing with increasing pace, jangly percussion and drums beating down, leaving us anticipated.
If you like music that constantly keeps you occupied and on your toes with twists and turns, “MVP” will not disappoint. So, come and try to keep up with Paulcito’s wit and wonder.
