Neverland by Ollie Twohill: Review
Ollie Twohill is gifted with a perfect pitch and he could sing before he could even talk. If anything, the Australian singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist was born to play music. His sound, as heard in earlier tracks, incorporates contemporary folk, pop, and rock musical influences. Whereas with the release of his latest single “Neverland,” he seemed to venture further into the realms of pop punk sound than ever before.
The track was produced by the talented Dylan J Smith producer and featured the longtime familiar siblings musicians on Twohill’s recordings, drummer Blair Hamilton and bass player Lawson Hamilton. It’s vibrant and upbeat right away, with a full band sound and powerful vocals. This is the kind of tune that immediately draws your attention and holds it throughout the entire performance. The energetic and fist-pumping energy is maintained throughout, seasoned with playful sounds like chanting or hand clapping. “It is a song about a place which is an oasis and retreat from the daily challenges of life, particularly the current world of turmoil and instability. The song is for all those marginalised people out there that don’t quite fit in and get hassled in their day to day lives”, he explained.
Quotable lyrics:
“Planet Earth is a funny place
It’s not for everyone
If you’re an outcast just like me
Then this is your new home
This is your anthem”
“Neverland” is another gorgeous gem in Ollie Twohill’s discography. We can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
