Touch Down by Gina Williams: Review

From live solo performances with her rich, powerful voice and magical piano serenades to studio records, Gina Williams is an up-and-coming name within the musical industry. Her 2021 album “Touch Down” is filled with 10 vibrant numbers, each with a unique tune.
The album initiates with the self-titled track, an energetic flow of raw vocals, a catchy chorus, and synth-like chords sprinkled sparingly while Gina sings beat to beat, making you want to dance. Taking it up a notch with the dance beat and instrumentals, “What’re ya Offerin” is sassy of a black woman who wants it all while and takes pride with the world set ablaze in envy of her. She keeps the similar energy in the other songs, namely “Here for Ya”, the motivating “Do it Betta!”, “Can’ Go for That”, and a little Latin vibe within “Boom Boom”. You might catch an ominous and mysterious tune in the song “In My Life.” Williams brings up the spirit in “Dangerous” for a woman who’s known for breaking hearts. I caught a similar drift in “Fine,” which brings the album to an end, a body-grooving title for its Latin-like beat. But “Laidback,” which is the 9th from the EP lies somewhere in between but Gina keeps up her promise of positive vibes, with both her personally expressive lyrics, melodies, and cultured beats. It gives us an idea of the range of talents she’s pursued since her childhood. Needless to mention that she’s beyond her singing, songwriting, and composing capabilities, Gina Williams is a confident pianist on stage and an actress for film and TV.
