Lotus Grove has the chemistry you simply cannot fake. The Atlanta outfit has been playing together since middle school, and that long-standing connection bleeds all over the gritty, emotionally charged rock track, “Ordinary People.” Recorded at Maze Studios while the band prepares to unleash a flood of twelve tracks, the single becomes the sound of a group kicking the door down together.
Right from the jump, “Ordinary People” comes swinging with thumping drums, gritty guitars, and cymbals that splash and spark like a fuse burning out. The instrumental has this restless, bustling energy to it, rough around the edges in the best possible way. Then the vocals arrive, and suddenly the whole thing cuts deeper. Ryan’s husky, throaty voice comes anguished so that it shows that it was pulled from somewhere painfully real. He sings with visible strain and vulnerability, making every line feel personal.
What makes the song click is how it balances force with fragility. One moment the guitars are grinding forward with almost alt-metal intensity, the next the melody opens up and lets the emotion breathe. It feels like the band is wrestling with the weight of ordinary existence itself, with all the disappointment, longing, and frustration that comes with trying to stay afloat in everyday life. Yet despite the anguish threaded through the performance, the song never wallows. There’s momentum in it, a refusal to stay stuck in the mud.
And honestly, that’s where Lotus Grove stand out. Their influences may come from all over the map — even their drummer has a metal touring background.
“Ordinary People” lands as a raw, cathartic rock anthem fueled by friendship, years of trust, and enough emotional punch to leave a bruise. For only the second single off the upcoming album, Lotus Grove is already cooking with gas.
