Pearls by Roxercat: EP Review

Roxercat is a groovy rock band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. Their style of music draws inspiration from blues, a bit of funk, and hard rock vocals. I was quite delighted to hear about the diversity in their EP entitled “Pearls.” Once you get a taste of the group’s hypnotic melodic force, it’d be a shame to back away from it!
The EP opens up with the self-titled track “Pearls”, a soft rock tune that warmly welcomes audiences into the band’s atmosphere. Incorporating subtle guitar chords and lead elements, it acts as a perfect background for the singer to perform. While hearing the artist’s voice, I noticed an immensely clean approach being used, and it blended right in with the heartfelt rhythm section. Up next was the funktastic number “Crime”, this time around the bass guitar takes the center stage and lets out a flurry of slaps and pops. Quite invigorating to hear, this danceable tune had embellishments both from shredding solos, a disco-style organ, and a guitar strumming sequence present. Also, we get a taste of the singer’s more dominant presence. The added tension is represented by their ability to hit the higher notes effortlessly!
I was deeply moved by the emotional tale in “Baby I Tried.” There’s this gripping essence arriving from dark and moody guitar segments, and stellar vocals. The guitars are truly speaking here, and making conversation pertaining to a tear-jerking melody. Roxercat ends the EP with the sensational “2020.” A budding rock song filled with slow portions countered with powerful crescendos, the ending song truly uplifts you but at the same time brings forth a sea of calm.
