With an exotic concoction of neo-soul, RnB, funk, and pop, Nathan Gittens AKA βNaytiiveβ graces our lives with his track βPoisonβ. Iβm feeling chipper, and it is my heartful opinion that I must share with you all regarding Naytiiveβs music. Heβs an absolute genius with that smooth-as-silk voice. Youβll be unable to escape the hold his music will have over you. Take it from me, Iβve replayed βPoisonβ nearly ten times now!
βPoisonβ sets a dive bar scene that is evident from Nathanβs extremely suave lyrics. Aside from that, the track is heavily driven by synth and keys. The first segment starts off slow, and here is where the neo-soul elements are more contemporary. The bass line also follows, and it has a deep undertone that fits the songβs structure beautifully. Later on, a more vibrant electric synth follows and changes the overall vibe of the track, thus infused with more energy and funk. Nathan doesnβt shy away from showing off his vocal prowess with vibratos and falsettos, heβs a natural fam!
What I truly enjoyed was the chord structures, and especially the ending chord transitions. It was simply marvelous. Also, this song has one of the best outros I have ever heard in a long time. That symphony-like synth-style exit, makes your heart drench in sorrow wondering why it had to end, and excited enough to press replay. Itβs jaw-dropping, itβs edgy, itβs perfect! Oh, and dear reader before you go, have a glimpse of these artsy lyrics β
βCrazy addiction
Whiskey no mixer
Iβm on the rocks tonight
Laced with affliction
Lost in tunnel vision
But youβre my kryptoniteβ
