Amara-Fe’s latest pop odyssey, SHIFT, is a 24-track rollercoaster that refuses to hit the brakes. Born from a deep-rooted musical lineage, her paternal ties trace back to members of The Gap Band, while her maternal side connects to a songwriter for Minnie Riperton; Amara-Fe’s DNA practically hums in melody. Recorded in her creative sanctuary in Texas, the album radiates the freedom of someone who truly feels at home in her art. With no grandstanding influences, just a pure love for sound and storytelling, SHIFT embodies the essence of pop as it brims with personality.
The record kicks off with “Eyes on Me,” which struts with thick, heavy beats alongside Amara-Fe’s effortless confidence. Her lush and commanding voice makes the lyricism sparkle with attitude. It’s witty and catchy in all the right ways; after one listen, you’ll find yourself humming the hook without realizing it. Then comes “Call Me Out,” a hypnotic mid-album gem that blends tapping percussion with a cinematic pulse. It walks through neon rain, mystical and confrontational all at once. When she sings, “Call me out, call me now, if I am the one you want, boy, say it loud,” her tone cuts through vulnerable, like she’s daring her love to speak up.
Later, “The Potion” shifts gears into sensual, self-possessed, and sultry territory. With her velvety delivery, she sings over ambient textures and finger snaps, declaring her indifference in lines like, “Haters talking, but I am all about the hustle.” Finally, anthemic and gutsy “I Sing, I Rap” brings the curtain down in a blaze of empowerment.
In SHIFT, Amara-Fe rewrites her own rules. Check it out on Spotify.
