Tears Of Coal by Taylor B-W: Review
Taylor B-W is a Sydney-based artist who writes poetry in the form of songs and gets it stuck in your mind. Her most recent track, โTears Of Coalโ is a passionate ballad with meaningful lyrics and an evocative voice, with a soundscape reminiscent of musicians such as Jarryd James and Vera Blue.
Talking about the creative process of the song, Taylor said she was inspired by the idea of rising up from the ashes and being open to love again. She originally had the tune spontaneously strike her as she was playing around on the piano, and she took a demo of it to the talented producer Liam Quinn with a clear idea of an electronic folk blend with an R&B sound in mind. Throughout the course of the song, she explores a number of rhythms to resemble the various states of emotional development that she goes through. The verse begins gently, with gently plucked acoustic guitar backing up the vocals, then gradually builds up to a climax in the chorus, with a thrudding synth beat. But the instrumentation never gets in the way of her voice, whether she is softly whispering or belting her heart out. Taylor has complete control of her voice and delivers an amazing vocal performance in the song.
Her previous hits, along with โTears Of Coal,โ will be included on her upcoming debut EP. Make sure to add them to your playlist if youโre in the mood for some 90s nostalgia.
