THE OFFSPRING Debuts ‘Behind Your Walls’ Video
The video for THE OFFSPRING’s new track “Behind Your Walls” has been released. The hauntingly beautiful animated short follows a couple as they attempt to negotiate a dismal post-apocalyptic environment beset with apparently insurmountable challenges. To develop a visual companion to the song’s lyrics, director and animator Jeb Hardwick collaborated closely with lead vocalist and songwriter Bryan “Dexter” Holland.
According to Hardwick, “the music generated a sense of a couple seeking to communicate over emotional hurdles that had been growing over time.” “I intended to convert that prompt into a dark fairytale, a dystopian spin on the standard storytelling pattern used by authors such as the Brothers Grimm. I intended the video to have an ambiguous dreamlike aesthetic, therefore I wanted to remove some of the clarity and crispness commonly associated with CGI and give it the feel of a moving painting or a 1920s German Expressionist film.”
Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman, the guitarist, says “”Behind Your Walls,” , “is about attempting to reach someone who is feeling alienated, alone, or depressed.” How can you reach out and bridge the emotional divide? It can feel impossible to emotionally and mentally grasp that individual and drag them back to ‘safety.’ That conflict is the subject of the song.”
THE OFFSPRING is currently on the road in support of their new album, “Let The Bad Times Roll.” Baltimore, Atlanta, New York City, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, and Milwaukee are among the tour’s stops in the United States. Summer festival appearances have also been confirmed for the band in Europe, Japan, and Brazil.
THE OFFSPRING have a reputation for their identifiable sound and social commentary, and are frequently recognized as one of the best rock bands of all time. The multi-platinum band rose to prominence in the 1990s with the publication of their album “Smash,” which went on to sell over 11 million copies worldwide. They continued to unleash hit after hit after “Smash,” popularizing rock on a mass scale.
THE OFFSPRING have sold over 40 million albums, performed arenas, and amassed a global fan following over the course of their career. “Let The Bad Times Roll” is the band’s eighth studio album and their third with famed producer Bob Rock. The band and lyricist Dexter Holland, true to the irreverence at the center of their rock music, took a look at today’s cultural situations and didn’t shy away from generating relevant material in this album.
Holland comments, “This record is perhaps the most cathartic thing we’ve done.” “The messages may be grim, but at the end of the day, what matters is communication, working through feelings, and most importantly, hope.”
“Let The Bad Times Roll” has been a great global success, with seven top 5 and ten top 10 international debuts, as well as nine top ten debuts in the United States. The album reached No. 3 in the United Kingdom and No. 1 in the United States on the Alternative Albums chart.
Holland, Wasserman, and bassist Todd Morse make up the lineup of THE OFFSPRING, which was once known as MANIC SUBSIDAL. THE OFFSPRING is generally credited with renewing mainstream interest in rock in the 1990s, alongside fellow California bands GREEN DAY and RANCID.
