“The Wedding Dance” by Dave Packham is a slow-burning, soul-drenched return from an artist who clearly never lost the rhythm in his bones. Released on April 11, 2025, this debut album sounds like it’s been lived in for years, forged in smokey bars, shaped by life’s curveballs, and polished by the joy of rediscovery. Hailing from Shoreham-by-Sea, Dave Packham delivers a deeply personal blend of blues, soul, funk, and rock, channeled through a guitar that hums with feeling and a voice that speaks to time spent away and the warmth of coming home.
The album opens with “And I Love Her,” where soft, shimmering guitar lines wrap around his mellow, emotive vocals. The backing harmonies echo his words like ghostly affirmations, turning a simple love song into something far more spiritual. By the time you hit “Magic Marker,” the tone shifts into bittersweet storytelling. There’s a childlike longing in the lyrics, dreaming of magic carpets and do-overs, but the way he ends the track, “Girl, I wish I could meet you again, we could be more than friends,” lands like a punch to the heart.
Then there’s “Birds Are Singing,” a track that starts like a lazy Sunday morning, all gentle cymbal sparkles and layered guitar melodies tiptoeing around each other. But halfway through, the track explodes into a gritty, emotional dance, with fuzzy riffs charging forward as if emotions are spilling over after being held back too long.
Recorded live in just a day and a half at Church Road Studios with vintage gear and zero pretense, “The Wedding Dance” is a celebration of sound and soul. Check it out on Spotify.
