Waiting Syndrome by IRYS: Review
“Waiting Syndrome” is a passionate dark-pop melody brought to life by IRYS. The Berlin-based artist exhibits a vibing tune through sultry vocals and an electronica sequence backing it up. While the aura of this song has a consistent pop tempo, it also forms a unity between lounge music and downtempo excellently.
IRYS is renowned for her spicy take on the pop genre and “Waiting Syndrome” enacts that essence with charm. Her voice overflows with a layer of sentiment that moves at a steady pace, and the accompanying beats keep it all together. While taking in the song’s intro, I sensed avant-garde’s presence in the mix. Echoed vocals intertwine with a faded synthesizer and it creates an intriguing tension. This portion is also repeated in the middle of the track and this level of consistency was quite pleasant to hear. Speaking of pleasant, what comes right after this avant-garde piece is a fire beat drop. This is when IRYS comes into her element and sings a dynamic ode full of grit with the allure of dark pop. The verse segments heat up as edgy vocals and a deep bassline resonates, all the while capturing our attention.
Folks, the range in pop music today has taken me by surprise. Time and time again, the genre’s reach is felt with house music, mellow electronica, and more prominently with IRYS, the cadence of LoFi. Its influence on “Waiting Syndrome” has a nice ring to it, and I’m eager to hear more from this gem of an artist!
