Jack Lillian’s “Weeping Willow” is a powerful and emotive rock song that grips the listener with its intense vocals and hard-hitting instrumentals, all done by the artist alone. The lone wolf is a multi-instrumentalist behind the guitar, bass, drums, and even vocals. Engineered, recorded, and mixed in her bedroom, the song comes with a message.
Lillian’s verse starts with the lyrics, “I want to be sacred/ Like the stardust I dream floats heavy in front of me.” Visualizing the attractive but photoshopped models and figures she sees on TV, she refers to them as sacred “stardust.” It’s only appropriate that she would sing about this now because it is an ode to her 10-year anniversary of anorexia. She further asks the world to “take all” from her because she has left “no flesh” outside her skeleton. She portrays the huge and unrealistic demands the media industry and pop culture make of women.
Something I personally love about “Weeping Willow” is Lillian’s vocals. She has a particular articulation on the lyrics that gives the song a haunting and mystical ambience and an atmospheric soundscape.
With the driving guitar riffs and pounding drums creating an intensity building in the air, “Weeping Willow” drags the soundscape with a pining and desperate sorrow.
Influenced by musicians like Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, and Heart, “Weeping Willow” is a standout track that showcases Jack Lillian’s talent and potential as a rising artist. Listen to “Weeping Willow” by Jack Lillian to take a shot at raising awareness about your own issues and start the road to recovery.
