When Dreams End by Chris St. John: Album Review
When Dreams End is Chris St. John’s latest release, penned with the hopes of winning people’s hearts. I mean the songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist certainly tugged at my heartstrings which is why I’m here to share my thoughts on it with you guys today.
What started out as a single, became an EP and then finally an 8-song fully released LP, recorded in Nashville. Another Latin America-inspired song “Her Name was Lily” also made it into this collection. He is also very diverse, as I could hear the definite country in “These Curves”. It also highlights Chris’s buttery voice. It’s hard to cherry-pick one aspect from each song because the artist is so multi-faceted and his songs are dripping with emotion! Like “Bitter Tears”, as the title expresses, is drenched in the pain of missing a loved one, and Chris does a fantastic job of adding a bleak and haunting tune to the guitar solo part. “Oh Papa” also captures the loss of a father in one’s childhood, and the effects of it carried through. The Spanish-featured song “Lost Without You” penned at the last minute, and performed over his baritone guitar is what made the album complete. I’m a sap for love songs, so I can see why Chris had to include it in his discography!
I had to end this one on a positive note, but you guys should go and check out this LP right now or you would truly miss the dancing emotions all across the canvas that St. John lays out for us.
